In 1999 Marcia Kilgore sold a majority stake of Bliss to LVMH for $30 million at the age of 30 years old.

DARA KENNEDY: I think everyone views you as an entrepreneur with a Midas touch, but when you were just starting out, how did you build credibility?

MARCIA KILGORE: I was just trying harder than everybody else. Before Bliss I had a three-room spa called Let's Face It, and people loved us; we were all about the details. We used to write thank-you notes to every person who came in for a service. Each morning the answering machine would have 73 messages on it, and we wouldn't have an appointment available for the next 18 months, so we knew we had to expand. It's really simple: I gave a better facial than other people around at the time, and for a really good price. That's how I built my business.
