The Best Fucking Book Club Ever
Early in 2017, I was disgusted by the American election. I decided to take matters into my own hands with a bit of a taunt to the President utilizing small words and sentences to create an ad. I also couldn't figure out how to get people's attention in the midst of the political shit-show, and although (because I am a sane person) I am just as disgusted about it as every other like-minded human, I still had work to get done. How was I going to get people's attention while remaining empathetic? How was I going to wade through my work without losing my mind while mired in sadness?
The Best Fucking Book Club, that's how.
The concept came because all of my clients have always talked so fondly about their own book clubs, wine drinking with girlfriends and such, but they always professed that rarely did they actually get to A-read the book and B-discuss it. Considering how deliberate I am about choosing books and how much they have impacted my personal and business growth, I want it to be enjoyable for sure, but I also actually wanted people to get to the information and discussion portion of the book reading event.
This brings me to word of mouth marketing.
Every client I had after I posted the video asked me about Book Club. "When is it starting??" "Where did Book Club go?" It was provocative, sticky, it evoked an emotion, was memorable, easy to remember - all the elements of a contagious campaign. Typically I can hit all these targets when I don't overthink it - when I develop something that makes me laugh and amuses me I tend to think I've most likely nailed it.
How do you like to infuse fun back into your business while also staying on brand?
